Privacy Policy
How Best UK Money Deals collects, uses and protects your personal data under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018. Last updated 22 May 2026.
1. Who we are
Best UK Money Deals ("BUMD", "we", "us") is an independent UK personal finance comparison website operated from the United Kingdom. We are the data controller for personal data collected through bestukmoneydeals.co.uk. If you have any privacy questions, contact our editorial team at [email protected] or use the contact form.
2. What personal data we collect
We only collect what we need to deliver the service:
- Email address — when you subscribe to our weekly UK money guide newsletter.
- Name, email address and message — when you use the contact form.
- Technical data — IP address, browser type, device type, pages viewed and approximate location (country / city), collected automatically via cookies and analytics.
- Cookie preferences — your choice on our cookie banner, stored in your browser.
We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. We do not collect special-category data (health, religion, political views etc.). We do not collect financial account numbers, card numbers or banking credentials — never type them anywhere on this site.
3. Why we use your data (lawful basis)
| Purpose | Lawful basis | Data used |
|---|---|---|
| Send weekly newsletter | Consent (you ticked the box) | Email address only |
| Reply to contact-form messages | Legitimate interest (you contacted us) | Name, email, message |
| Measure site usage and improve content | Legitimate interest | Anonymised analytics |
| Detect fraud and bot traffic | Legitimate interest | IP, browser fingerprint |
| Comply with UK legal obligations | Legal obligation | As required by law |
4. How long we keep your data
- Newsletter subscribers — until you unsubscribe. One-click unsubscribe link is in every email.
- Contact-form submissions — 24 months from last reply, then deleted.
- Analytics data — 14 months in aggregate form, then deleted or fully anonymised.
- Cookie consent — 12 months in your browser, then we re-ask.
5. Who we share data with
We do not sell personal data, ever. We share with the minimum necessary third parties to operate the service:
- Email delivery provider — to send our newsletter.
- Analytics provider — anonymised, aggregated traffic data only.
- Hosting and CDN providers — to serve the website (UK and EU servers).
- Affiliate networks — when you click through to a lender, we share a click-ID. We do not share your email, name or personal contact details with lenders unless you apply directly with them.
- UK authorities — only where required by law (e.g. a court order or HMRC information notice).
All third-party processors are bound by written contracts and are required to handle your data only on our instructions and only for the purposes listed above.
6. Affiliate clicks and trackers
When you click an "Apply now" button to visit a lender's website, the destination URL typically contains a tracking ID identifying BUMD as the referrer. This is how we are paid commission. The tracking ID does not contain your name, email or any personal identifier — only a campaign code attached to the click event.
7. International data transfers
Where personal data is transferred outside the UK or EEA — for example to a US-based analytics provider — we rely on the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, Standard Contractual Clauses, or an adequacy decision. We do not transfer personal data to any jurisdiction without an appropriate safeguard in place.
8. Your rights under UK GDPR
You have the following rights over your personal data:
- Right of access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right of rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Right of erasure — ask us to delete your personal data ('right to be forgotten').
- Right to restrict processing — ask us to pause processing while we resolve a concern.
- Right to data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interest, including direct marketing.
- Right to withdraw consent — at any time, for any consent-based processing (e.g. newsletter).
- Right to lodge a complaint — with the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Most rights can be exercised by emailing [email protected]. We aim to respond within 30 days as required by UK GDPR.
9. Security
BUMD uses HTTPS encryption across the entire site, secure password hashing for staff accounts, encryption at rest for any personal data stored on our servers, and regular access reviews for editorial staff. We do not store payment or financial-account information on our servers.
10. Cookies
Detailed information about the cookies we use is set out on our Cookie Policy page. In short: we use essential cookies (always on), and analytics / measurement cookies (only with your consent). No advertising cookies.
11. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when our practices change or where law requires. Material changes are notified by email to newsletter subscribers and via a banner on the home page for at least 30 days. The 'last updated' date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent change.
